About Us

Listed Building Repairs is a North Hertfordshire-based company, which offers a range of carpentry and joinery services in the South East. Our work encompasses all areas of traditional carpentry from sole-plate repair to stair installation. Most of the work undertaken by Listed Building Repairs is within the historic building sector in the renovation of private residences and the maintenance of churches. In conjunction with the conservation work, the company also offers fine carpentry and joinery, including purpose-built shelving and storage solutions and modern kitchen planning and installation.

Simon Foulser founded Listed Building Repairs in 2008 in order to specialise in the repair and conservation of historic buildings. Prior to the company’s establishment, Simon worked as a carpenter for a number of specialist organisations throughout the UK. As a History of Art and Architecture graduate from Warwick University (1998), Simon’s passion for historic building began as soon as he left school. Having gained distinction in his City and Guilds Advanced Craft Awards, Simon went on to achieve an MSc in the Conservation of Timber Framed Buildings from Bournemouth University. This line of study paved the way to his becoming a Prince of Wales Craft Scholar, which enabled him to work on such buildings as the ancient bell tower at Windsor Castle, Fountains Abbey and Manchester Town Hall. In 2008 Simon became a Queen’s Scholar when he was awarded a bursary for professional development from the Queen’s Award, QEST. This opportunity has enabled Simon to pursue his passion for timber faming, historic repairs and sustainable architecture. As part of his professional development, Simon regularly attends courses at the Weald and Downland Museum, Chichester.
